When I think of spring I imagine crisp white linens, a cool breeze, greenery, light fabrics and fresh flowers. Spring feels like a new beginning and so it’s no doubt that we all get an urge to deep clean our home and freshen up our spaces.
A spring refresh doesn’t need to cost a lot of money or time. It can be done in stages and can easily be done by simply moving things from one space to another; also known as “shopping your home”. Off course it’s also fun to grab a few new items if the budget allows:). Here is a list of what I feel are the best ways to give your home a Spring Refresh.
I love to bring in fresh flowers and place little arrangements throughout the house. I usually grab a few varieties of flowers from the grocery store and then divide it between a few jars and vases of different shapes and sizes and place in different rooms around the house. These little pops of colour around the house are such and pretty addition.
Another way to bring greenery into your home is with plants. I’ve recently become quite the plant lady. I can’t believe how much of a difference plants can make! They are also great for the air quality in your house and can be used in a variety of ways. The trick is to keep them alive and I’m determined to be diligent in this area. I’ve had fun finding cute pots and baskets for my plants and feel like this is another inexpensive but impacting way to bring life to your home.
Freshen up Shelves
I have a few areas of my house that I have fun playing around with from season to season. The first one is my entry table. I keep a letter board on it and a few other consistent items but then switch things around from time to time. Spring is a great time to remove everything, give it a good dusting and then give it a refresh. Find a fun seasonal quote for the letter board, add some fresh greenery or a jar with flowers, maybe a new magazine or candle. Have fun with it!
The other shelf that I have a little fun with is the open shelving in my kitchen. It’s fun to remove everything from the shelves, give them a good cleaning and then start fresh.
Add Fresh Texture
Accessories and texture are the best way to give your house a fresh lease on life! Simple changes to throw pillows and blankets, rugs and mats are all easy and inexpensive touches that make a big impact to a space.
I love to shop my home for these items. Move a throw blanket from one space to another, change up area rugs, move decor items and give them a new home or again, if the budget allows, you can always purchase a few items to bring a new vibe to your space.
The winter months call for cozy wool throws, flannel sheets and double coverlets but come spring its time to open the windows, let in a fresh breeze and fresh linens is a great way to refresh your bedroom. I love to change up my duvet cover, add a lighter throw blanket and lose a few layers. This doesn’t have to mean buying new bedding every spring. Just have a few sets that you rotate with the seasons:) . Trust me, once its been tucked away for a season it will feel brand new when you bring it back out again! Careful for the monkeys though;) . They love jumping on the fresh made bed with its crisp white linens:)
Front Porch Refresh
This may be the most important part of your Spring Home Refresh! As a Realtor I know how important a first impression is and your front entrance is your opportunity to make a visitor feel welcome and it gives that first little piece of what they can expect when they walk through the front door.
Some fresh annuals, consistent shrubs and an inviting welcome mat are fun ways to greet your guests. Add some texture with a wooden crate or rustic bench. There are really so many ways to add warmth to your front porch. Have fun with it and make it your own! Let it be a representation of your style.
